Maintaining Flexibility With Healthy Living

So, you want to focus more on healthy living and live a more healthy lifestyle that is amazing! But starting your healthy living journey is only the beginning. One of the most important things to focus on with healthy living is consistency, and the best way to be more consistent is with flexibility.

The more flexible you can be, the more you are able to create a healthy lifestyle that is sustainable for you. This is what sets you apart from people who go on this journey and give up after a few days or weeks.

Identify Your Primary Goals With Healthy Living

Looking at what your main goals with healthy living can really help with being more flexible, because it shifts your mindset and allows you to look at the bigger picture. Think back to when you first started thinking about adapting a healthier lifestyle, what was your main reason?

  • Did you want to lose some weight?
  • Are you hoping to improve your overall health and wellness?
  • Do you want to be a good role model for your kids?
  • Is there a specific area of health you are struggling with?
  • Do you want to be more active and have more energy?

Identify your main goals, as this will help you to find where within reaching these goals you might need to be a little more flexible. If your goals are too strict or going to require extreme restrictions in your life, then flexibility will be a lot harder to attain. This is where you need to start.

How Much is Your Lifestyle Changing?

Consider how much your lifestyle will need to change in order to accomplish your healthy living goals. This is the first moment when you see if flexibility is possible, or if you might have a toxic relationship with health and wellness. If you are being too strict and your goals are almost unattainable, then you need to work on this first before doing anything else.

Look at the goals you have for your health journey, and think about how much your lifestyle is going to change. If it is more than changing some habits into healthier ones or adapting small things in your life to accommodate healthy living, then you are working against yourself.

What Are Some Smaller Healthy Changes You Can Make?

Think instead of small habits and changes you can make in order to live a healthier lifestyle. Start with a big list of all your habits, both “good” and “bad” that you have in your day. This includes things you do every day, or most days, from brushing your teeth and making your morning coffee, to spending hours in the binge watching Netflix or staying up too late on your phone.

You need a big picture of what your habits are, so that you can then go through and look at what small habits you want to adjust. Not completely removing Netflix from your life, but just adjusting it in small ways to fit in some healthier habits during that window, while still enjoying your occasional binge session.

Track Your Progress

Tracking your progress when you start anything new is incredibly useful, even if you don’t have specific goals you are trying to reach. You can simply write down the new healthy habits you are incorporating into your life, then track how often you complete those habits, or create a schedule of when to add in each new habit to your lifestyle.

You can do this with an actual habit tracker, or simply by writing it down in a journal or notebook.
